On December 11th, the Paltamo municipality council approved the master plan for the Valkeisvaara wind power project. The project consists of six turbines with a total capacity of 36 MW [AR1] and is the first approved wind power master plan in Paltamo.
The approval of the plan is a significant step in the development of the project, Annika Raschen, project manager at Eurowind Energy Oy explains:
"After this year's uncertainty in the wind energy sector caused by the governmental distance requirement discussion, this approval for the Valkeisvaara project feels like an early Christmas present. Our team has put a lot of effort into this project, and it is great to see it pay off. The close cooperation with the municipality of Paltamo and the involvement of local stakeholders were of great importance for the success of this project.”
Recently the market has been challenging, primarily due to persistently low electricity prices and fluctuating political discourse on wind power, putting significant pressure on operations across the sector.
Eurowind Energy Oy began operations in Finland in spring 2021, the same year as the Valkeisvaara project was launched in cooperation with Solarwind Finland Oy. Extensive environmental studies have been carried out in the area during the project, and the various stages of the plan have been made available for public viewing. This has enabled feedback from local residents and statements from the authorities to be taken into account in the development of the project.
Country Manager of Eurowind Energy Oy, Tuuli Vapaavuori-Vartiainen states: "This is the first wind power development project that our team has successfully brought to the approval stage. I am proud of the great work our team has done on this project. I am now moving on to new responsibilities at Eurowind Energy, and I am confident that our new Country Manager, Peter Anton, will continue the development work successfully."
Peter Anton has commenced his responsibilities at Eurowind Energy Oy and will formally assume the position of Country Manager as of January 2026.
