Tomasz Szlachetka Our business analyst and international relations expert with a passion for gaming

Who am I?

I have an MA in European Studies from Aalborg University, and I first became acquainted with the business within renewable energy at my internship at Marigerfjord business council. I was employed to investigate the renewable energy potential within the municipality and to utilize this potential including that of the already established companies in this sector, such as Eurowind Energy, in order to attract new investments into renewable energy in the municipality. This internship truly kickstarted my passion for renewable energy. After finalizing my internship and master’s degree in 2011, I applied for a job as Project Assistant here at Eurowind. And I have been a part of the company since. I originally come from Poland, but I have lived in Denmark most of my life, and I went to school in Hobro. On that note, I feel like I have always known Eurowind, because it is one of the larger companies in Hobro.

Eurowind also made it possible for me, and my wife, to live and develop here in Denmark. During my studies, I went on holiday to Poland and there I met my wife, Elzbieta Dyrkacz-Szlachetka. We decided to see if this relationship was something special, and we actually managed to have a long-distance relationship for three years. But after three years, we faced a crossroads where we needed to decide if I should move back to Poland or she should come to Denmark. We decided on Denmark due to the fact that I already had a job with Eurowind, and the task was therefore to find a job for Elzbieta. Elzbieta came to Denmark without speaking the Danish language, and in order for her to have easier access to the Danish job market, it was important for her to learn the language. However, she needed a minimum of 8 hours’ employment per week in order to attend the Danish language courses. I therefore asked our CEO if it was possible for Eurowind to find some hours for her, so she could start learning Danish, and they did. She started an eight-hour weekly employment in Eurowind, as well as starting on the Danish language course. Elzbieta quickly became interested in the working tasks she did for the Technical Department as well as working in a renewable energy company. After six months, she got full-time employment as an Asset Management Assistant in the Technical Department in Eurowind and has worked in that position ever since.

One of the things I value the most is that the ideas that I bring to the table are heard

How I make a difference?

I work as a Business Development Manager with the focus area of Eastern Europe and my primary tasks are to analyze the business potential of the new projects that our markets bring into consideration. Furthermore, I develop market research for new markets in Eastern Europe as well as developing new strategic business partnerships in markets where Eurowind is already present as well as in new markets. Supporting our Project Development Departments in the different countries and utilizing the know-how of our specialists across Europe, in order to bring the most attractive projects to market, is a key aspect of my work.

I have had multiple roles in my time with Eurowind. I started as a Project Assistant, where my main task, among others, was to assist with the project planning of new wind projects in Denmark. After a year, I became involved in the project planning and sale of roof-top PV systems, and later in the budgeting and financing of larger scale PV projects in Romania. After the commissioning of our Romanian PV projects, I was redeployed to the Technical Department and worked as a Technical Project Manager for 5 years, where my main tasks were the technical monitoring and management of our operational wind turbines in Denmark and Germany and reporting on their performance. In 2021, I was then asked if I would contribute to business development throughout Eastern Europe as a Business Development Manager, which I accepted. One could say that I am the link in the Development Department between Denmark and our other markets in Eastern Europe.

What drives me?

I am highly motivated by my work tasks and working with renewable energy. One of the things I value the most is that the ideas that I bring to the table are heard. The cooperation between the departments and the countries works great. I think that it is an exciting industry, and if you are keen on being a part of an international company in a sustainable growth industry, where your opinion matters, Eurowind is the place to be.

Fun fact: I mountain bike and go on hiking trips with my wife and our dog. Other than that, I spend my time gaming online with friends. I do shooting games that keep my reaction abilities sharp and strategy games that keep my mind sharp.
