Wind and solar complement each other. Wind turbines usually produce the most electricity during the autumn and winter months, while solar panels typically produce the most during spring and summer. Combining them can therefore give a more stable output across the year and make better use of the grid and the local infrastructure.

It depends on the specific location and layout. The project is assessed in relation to farming, nature, landscape, soil, groundwater and drainage, among other things. Solar areas can for example be laid out with flowering margins, grazing or other nature management, while wind turbines occupy a limited area around foundations and access roads. The specific measures are determined through surveys and dialogue with landowners and authorities.

Wind turbines and solar installations have a limited operating life. When the project ends, the installations are as a rule dismantled, and the land can be returned to its previous use or put to new use in line with the applicable agreements and regulatory requirements. Materials from both turbines and panels are recycled to the greatest extent possible, and responsibility and funding for the dismantling are agreed as part of the project.

Noise and shadow flicker are calculated for the relevant dwellings as part of the planning process. The project must comply with national noise regulations, and the turbines can be programmed to stop temporarily in periods where shadow flicker would otherwise exceed the applicable guidelines. The specific calculations and results are documented in the project’s environmental and regulatory material.

A wind turbine can stop because of servicing, grid balancing or weather conditions. It can also stop automatically for safety reasons, for example when there is a risk of ice on the blades. Temporary stops are a normal part of operation.

Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity. The panels have no moving parts and emit no noise during normal operation. Technical equipment such as inverters can emit a faint sound, but it is placed and designed in accordance with applicable requirements and with consideration for the surroundings.

A solar project is assessed in relation to landscape, visibility, nature, drainage, access and neighbours, among other things. Screening vegetation, setback distances and the height and placement of the installation can all form part of the design. The specific solutions are determined through environmental studies, planning and dialogue with the municipality and the local community.
